Adele E. Groth, age 98, of Hastings, died March 7 at Augustana Health Care Center.

Adele E. Groth, age 98, of Hastings, died March 7 at Augustana Health Care Center.

She was born to Otto and Herminnie (Rahn) Pieper on March 23, 1913, in St. Paul, and married Arthur A. Groth on Sept. 6, 1937, at Trinity Lone Oak Lutheran Church in Eagan. Adele was a homemaker, had farmed with her husband in Vermillion Township, and had formerly operated the Steinstube in Amery, Wis., with her husband.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; great-granddaughter Grace Loper; and siblings, Emily Post, Tillie Groth, Walter Pieper, and Herb Pieper.

Adele is survived by her children, Arthur O. of Amery, Duane (Barb), Wally (Judy), Glenn (Cindy), all of Hastings, Joyce (Randy) Westphal of Fond Du Lac, Wis., Gale (Barb) of Hastings, and Don (Regina) of Oakdale; also 21 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Minnie Beulke, Alice Groth, and Hilde Pieper; brother-in-law Winfred Horrisberger.

The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Percy J. Damrow, will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 202 W. Eighth St., Hastings, with visitation held at church after 9:30 a.m. Saturday until time of service. Interment to follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Hastings. Pallbearers are her grandchildren.
