Wendell L. Rene, a math teacher for 37 years in Hastings, passed away Feb. 26 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Wendell L. Rene, a math teacher for 37 years in Hastings, passed away Feb. 26 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

He was born Aug. 20, 1940, in Neche, N.D., to Edmund and Cecelia (O’Leary) Rene. He married Patricia Markert in Moorhead, Minn., on July 7, 1968.

Wendell, a lifelong Democrat, enjoyed antiques, golfing, fishing, traveling, and Twins games. He especially loved his grandchildren, spending time with them and watching their sporting events.

Wendell was preceded in death by his parents and brother, William.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Kim (Brian) Woodman, Ken Rene, and Kari (Aaron) Huebsch; grandchildren, Brandon, Bryce, Avery, Addison, and Breckan; sisters, Myrna (Harry) Kubista, Mary Ann (Myron) Kehler, and Rita (Adam) Schreiner; many extended family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 2, at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, 1401 W. 15th St., Hastings. A visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings, and 1 hour prior to the funeral at church. Memorials preferred.
