St. Peter photographer Jon Smithers found this bald eagle, which he named Freedom, living near St. Peter. One day seven years ago he noticed the bird was banded. He spent the next seven years trying to find out the numbers on the band so that the bird could be identified. Just a few weeks ago, he was able to get the definitive photo of the band. The bird was released through Carpenter Nature Center’s banding program.
