Stephen Carl Hemp, age 48, of Red Wing and formerly of Hastings, passed away Saturday, March 9, at his home.

Stephen Carl Hemp, age 48, of Red Wing and formerly of Hastings, passed away Saturday, March 9, at his home.

He was born Feb. 12, 1965, to Carl and Judy (Anderson) Hemp at St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul. He attended elementary school in Cottage Grove and graduated from Hastings High School in 1984. He studied graphic communications at Dakota County Vo-Tech. He worked in the printing industry in Lake City, Minn. He then lived and worked in Arizona for several years. Since returning to Minnesota, he had worked at Treasure Island Resort and Casino and most recently at Bic Advertising and Promotional Products in Red Wing.

Steve was an artistic and creative man who enjoyed the outdoors, kayaking, movies, and his family. He was a very kindhearted and thoughtful person with a wonderful dry sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl; paternal grandparents, Paul and Helen Hemp; maternal grandparents, Ardie and Florence Anderson; uncle Curt Anderson and aunt Ann Olafson.

Steve is survived by his mother, Judy; sister Sheryl; brother, Jon; sister and brother-in-law Heide and David Beierle and their children, Samuel, Rachel, and Sara; uncles and aunts Craig and Marlene Anderson, Clair and Betty Anderson, Dr. Richard Olafson; and many cousins.

The memorial service, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Menke, will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 14, at Our Saviour's Ev. Lutheran Church, 400 W. Ninth St., Hastings. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at church.

Memorials are requested to the Red Wing Food Shelf.
