Winter dance show is Saturday at Hastings High School

The second annual winter dance show for Just for Kix will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, in the Hastings High School gymnasium, 200 General Sieben Drive.

Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free for those 5 and younger.

This year’s show is candy themed and will feature a variety of routines performed by dancers ages 2 through sixth grade. 

Just for Kix came to Hastings in September 2011, and the classes have been held at Hastings Child Development Center, formerly Cooper Elementary School, on Monday and Thursday evening under the direction of Brooke Schultz. She also teaches dance for Just for Kix at the Farmington location. Just for Kix prides itself on being an organized, educational and fun dance program. The emphasis is on teamwork, cooperating and running a high quality program. In the Midwest, there are more than 2,000 Just for Kix locations.

The motto of the program is “Doing your best is more important than being the best.”

The first half of the year is preparation season – focusing on the basic skills and routines. The second half of the year is the performance season. Generally, four performances are scheduled. The performances begin this week.

Classes offered in Hastings include Tiny Kix, Wee Petites, Wee Kix, and Mini Kix. The movements and routines are designed and choreographed to be age appropriate.

Schultz has been involved in dance and Just for Kix for more than 17 years. Her experiences include being the dance coach at Hawley High School and Roseville High School. She has also been a judge for the Minnesota State High School League competitions. She has been with the Farmington Just for Kix program for several years.
