New Year’s Baby
Croix Fredrick Nelson arrives Jan. 1 at Regina Medical Center
He was due Dec. 29, but Croix Fredrick Nelson decided to wait until the new year to make his arrival into the world.
Croix, the son of Sheena and Jason Nelson of Prescott, Wis., was born at 6:33 p.m. Jan. 1, 2013, at Regina Medical Center in Hastings. He has an older brother, Brett, who is 11.
“I just wanted him to come,” said Sheena.
He weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces and was 21 and ¼ inches long. Regina’s Dr. Jennie Orr was the physician.
“Everyone has been fantastic to us while we have been here — all the staff,” said Sheena.
As to Croix’s unique first name, Sheena was quick to note it is for the river. Jason offered another more romantic explanation.
“We got engaged on the river,” he said.
Croix’s grandparents are Tammy and Danny Simonson of Roberts and Butch and Rita Schladweiler of Hager City, Wis. Great-grandparents are Eileen Johnson of Branson, Sheila Martinson of River Falls, Wis., and Mel Kusilek of River Falls.
In honor of Croix being the first baby born in 2013 at Regina Medical Center the Nelson family was provided a gift basket courtesy of Regina Medical Center. The basket included a first aid kit, baby bottle scrubber, other baby items and gift cards to Target and Panera Bread.
