Three games into the Suburban East Conference season, the Hastings girls basketball team is still looking for its first league win of the year. So far, the schedule hasn’t exactly been an easy one – Hastings has faced teams with a combined 8-1 record in the SEC. That said, the schedule doesn’t exactly get any easier, either.

One of those SEC losses came to Roseville on Friday, 68-24. Roseville is the state’s No. 4 ranked team.

“That’s as good a team as we’re going to play all year,” coach Mike Harp said. “They’re solid, top to bottom. They were too much for us. They were the better team on the floor, and they showed it.”

Hastings has a 3-5 overall record on the season. Hastings has struggled to stay healthy, and one of the team’s top players, Jill Weinzettel, has played just 10 minutes all year due to an injury.

“We haven’t played with our starting lineup yet,” Harp said. “We hope that once we get everybody healthy, and get some people going, we can improve and get better. We think we will.”

In the loss to Roseville, Hanna Norman led Hastings in scoring with 11 points. Also scoring were: Paige Ahrens, 6; Ashley Bayne, 4; Lauren Thomas, 2; and Hanah Martin, 1.

Vs Mounds View

Hastings lost to Mounds View on Tuesday night, 60-29.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 47-12 first-half lead at halftime and cruised to the win.

Norman led Hastings in scoring with 10 points. Also scoring were: Anna Connell, 7; Ahrens, 5; Lily Arvidson, 4; and Nicole Hollar, 3.
