The Hastings boys wrestling team lost a close dual meet to Shakopee on Friday night, 36-35.
After eight matches, Hastings trailed 27-11.
Hastings got a pin from Luis Sanchez at 120 pounds and a technical fall from Luke Rowh at 132 pounds to stay within range of the Sabers.
Hastings then got three consecutive pins to take a 29-27 lead.
Jake Anderson won by fall at 5:10. Anderson was wrestling at 160 pounds.
Dan Marquette won by fall at 170 pounds at 1:04.
Andy Rachuy kept the positive momentum going with a win by fall at 182 pounds at 2:54.
After a loss by pin at 195, Tony Lodermeier made it 35-33 Hastings with a fall. He was wrestling at 220 pounds. His fall came at 2:50.
Shakopee won the meet’s final match, and they eked out the win.
Hastings is ranked No. 7 in the state and Shakopee is No. 11.
Hastings has three wrestlers ranked in the state’s top 10. They are Rowh (No. 5), Marquette (who moved up two spaces to No. 8) and Rachuy, who is newly ranked (No. 8).
Jesse Green wrestled his first varsity match for Hastings, competing at 145 pounds. This is his first year out for the sport.
