Through four games so far this season, the Hastings girls basketball team has a 2-2 record.
The season began Nov. 27 with a 71-28 win over Cannon Falls.
Hastings had 11 players score in the game, with Hanna Norman leading the way. She finished with 20 points.
“Our defense was very good, and that led to most our baskets,” coach Mike Harp said. “The girls just played really good defense. They didn’t give Cannon Falls a chance to get into their offense. We hounded them all over the floor. We had a lot of easy baskets off of turnovers.”
Norman had eight steals, too.
Hanah Martin also hit double figures, scoring 12 points.
Also scoring were: Morgan Tjomsland, 4; Grace Daggett, 2; Paige Ahrens, 5; Nicole Hollar, 5; Anna Connell, 4; Kayla Denault, 2; Lauren Thomas, 7; Lily Arvidson, 4; Ashley Bayne, 6.
Vs Henry Sibley
Hastings beat Henry Sibley on Friday, Nov. 30, 66-62.
Thomas led the way for Hastings with 21 points and eight rebounds.
She and Bayne had a big assignment in the lane, trying to stop Sibley’s top player, who had a height advantage of about four inches on each one of them.
“Lauren and Ashley just did a great job of interior defense,” Harp said. “They really wore down their big girl. They did an outstanding job.”
Norman had a big night, too, scoring 17 points and recording six steals. She made three of four free throw attempts down the stretch to seal the win.
“She did a nice job of making her free throws and putting the game away,” Harp said.
Vs South St. Paul
Turnovers hurt Hastings in a loss to South St. Paul on Saturday. Hastings lost 44-21 after committing 32 turnovers.
Scoring for Hastings went like this: Martin, 4; Ahrens, 2; Hollar, 3; Connell, 5; Denault, 2; Arvidson, 1; Bayne, 4.
Vs Mahtomedi
Hastings lost to Mahtomedi on Tuesday night, 60-56.
