Raiders remain unbeaten at 5-0-2

Life continues to improve for the Hastings girls hockey team. The Raiders remain unbeaten on the season with a 5-0-2 record.

Included in the wins was a 4-3 overtime victory over the state’s No. 8 ranked team from Stillwater.

“We had a very successful week last week,” coach Jeff Corkish said. “We got off to a great start putting the Ponies on their heels with our quick forecheck and hard backcheck. The game went back and forth and we ended up going into overtime which we won 4-3.”

Freshman Kiki Radke scored the game-winner.

“Kiki had a great goal to win the game off a Natalie Simons pass,” Corkish said. “Kiki worked hard all summer on her stickhandling and making moves to her backhand. This goal was a direct correlation to her hard work in the offseason and should be an example to all our kids in the program of what hard work can get you and your team.”

Sophomore goalie Brooke Weber made 43 saves on the night.

“She played one of the best games we have ever seen a Hastings goalie play,” Corkish said.

Radke had two goals in the game. Also scoring were Sami Claussen and Simons.

Claussen had three assists. Simons had two and Kit Ruedy had one.

Vs Woodbury

Hastings beat Woodbury on Thursday night, Nov. 29, 5-1.

Goals were scored by Radke (two), Claussen, Simons and Jackie Stark. Assists were made by Elle Cooper, Claussen, Danielle Duffy, Erin Moes (two) and Simons.

Vs Forest Lake

Hastings traveled to Forest Lake on Saturday and tied the Rangers, 3-3.

Forest Lake took a 2-0 lead, but Hastings came back to tie the score in the second period. Before the end of the period, though, Forest Lake went back up on top, 3-2.

Hastings tied the score in the third and after a scoreless overtime period, the game ended in a tie.

“They have been giving teams fits all year and did the same to us,” Corkish said. “Even though we played three games this week and had tired legs, we never gave up and continued to battle to make the game 3-3. We had a great chance on a 2-on-1 in overtime but rung the crossbar and had to end up with a tie.”

Corkish was thrilled with the fight that he saw in his team.

“With this type of attitude, we are going to compete in every game we play this season,” he said. “They are a fun group of kids to coach, they just want to flat out win and they get mad when things don’t go the way they want – they compete with a lot of pride.”

Scoring goals for Hastings were Radke, Claussen and Simons. Assists were made by Radke (two), Moes and Anna Williams (two).

Brooke Weber made 27 saves on 30 shots.
