Hastings school district head school nurse Anne Conklin has been honored by her peers.
The School Nurses Organization of Minnesota (SNOM) has selected her as its Administrator of the Year.
Conklin has been the health services coordinator for Hastings schools since 1991. As the sole licensed school nurse employed by the school district, she supervises, coordinates and provides leadership over the program’s operations and staff.
School district administrators describe Conklin as having “considerable knowledge of health care, systematic planning and exemplary communication skills.
“She is the ‘go-to’ person who helps staff sort out unique health care situations and then makes sure they have a clearly articulated and fully understood plan in place for the future,” the nomination letter indicated.
Conklin received her Bachelor of Arts in nursing degree from the College of St. Catherine, and her Master of Science in nursing and public health nursing with a focus in school nursing from the University of Minnesota. Her Master’s degree projects included examining computerization of school health offices, compiling a policy and procedure manual for school nurses and researching the various modes of financing school health offices throughout Minnesota.
Conklin has a passion for data collection used to assess student health information in order to remove barriers to learning and is known in her district as “The Duchess of Data.”
In 2011, she was named a University Partnership of Health Informatics Scholar and recently completed the Certification in Health Information Technology program at the University of Minnesota.
The School Nurse Organization of Minnesota has benefited from Conklin’s skills as an active member of the board of directors, east metro regional representative, co-chair of the education committee, board of directors secretary, a member on the strategic planning task force and most recently, a member of the new SNOM website committee.
Conklin is married and has two daughters.
