The Hastings Raiders girls swimming team sure made the Section 1AA championships interesting last week. The Raiders came in a close second place behind Rochester John Marshall.
Hastings finished with 344 points. John Marshall had 368 points.
While Hastings didn’t win the team title, the Raiders will have a number of athletes at the state meet. Hastings has a total of 10 swims in seven events.
The state meet is this weekend at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Hastings will swim in the following events at the state meet:
200 medley relay – Hastings qualified for state with a time of 1:49.93. The top team, Eden Prairie, has a time of 1:47.08.
50 freestyle – Kate Reilly has one of the best times, 24.18 seconds. The top time is held by Carolyn Kane of Minnetonka at 23.46.
100 butterfly – Hastings has two qualifiers. They are Brina Kari (58.49) and Allissa Smith, 57.82). The top time is held by Bre Thorne of Eden Prairie, 55.79.
100 freestyle – Reilly qualified with a time of 52.73. The top time is held by Kaia Grobe of Chanhassen at 51.27.
500 freestyle – Abbie Gjelhaug qualified. She had a time of 5:14.23. The best time in sections was turned in by Amelia Schilling of Minnetonka at 4:53.79.
100 backstroke – Hastings has three qualifiers in the 100 backstroke. They are Kari (57.38), Smith (58.75) and Leonard (59.97).
400 freestyle relay – Hastings qualified with a time of 3:36.61. The top time belongs to Minnetonka at 3:28.00.

200 individual medley – Helen Jensen, fourth, 2:14.81; Kelly Leonard, ninth, 2:15.38; Jenna Spitzack, 13th, 2:23.13.
50 freestyle – Kate Reilly, second, 24.18; Mariah Wallace, 12th, 25.74; Emily Klysen, 15th, 25.96; Christina Gillard, 16th, 26.89.
100 butterfly – Allissa Smith, second, 57.82; Kari, fourth, 58.49; Spitzack, 12th, 1:03.95.
100 freestyle – Reilly, first, 52.73; Wallace, 10th, 56.80.
500 freestyle – Gjelhaug, third, 5:14.23; Jensen, fourth, 5:16.82; Kimmes, 10th, 5:27.90.
