Letter: Slaten’s letter was dishonest

To the editor:

This is in response to Don Slaten's dishonest letter to the editor criticizing Representative Denny McNamara. (Letter: In support of Joanna Bayers, 10/25/2012)

In the letter, Mr. Slaten stated that in a recent voters forum McNamara claimed to have AFL-CIO endorsement. Slaten said Rep McNamara's claim was "Not true!" and that McNamara was “taking credit where credit isn't due.”

Actually, McNamara's claim is true. He is endorsed by at least three AFL-CIO organizations: the Saint Paul Building and Construction Trades Council, the International Union of Operating Engineers (look it up on their website), and the Minnesota Nurses Association. These endorsements are clearly listed on the DennyMcNamara.com website.

Mr. Slaten, a leader in the second Congressional District DFL organization, might be expected to spin the truth against McNamara, but this is an outright lie and needs to be called out as such.

Denny McNamara has represented us well. He deserves credit for garnering these labor endorsements which are a testament to his willingness to work in a bi-partisan manner to get things done in Saint Paul. I urge you to vote to re-elect Denny McNamara in District 54B on Tuesday November 6th.
