The postseason has arrived for the Hastings boys and girls cross country teams.
Both the boys and the girls are racing today (Thursday) at Brooktree Golf Course in Owatonna at the section meet. The top 10 runners in the boys race and the girls race advance to the state meet.
The first big meet of the postseason, though, was the conference meet, held last week at Falcon Ridge Golf Course in Stacy.
The Hastings girls placed ninth out of 10 teams at the meet. The girls race was won by East Ridge and Roseville was second.
The girls were paced by Michaela Mills, who was 37th in 15:57.
Following her were: Ciara Christenson, 39th, 15:59; Bri Strandberg, 54th, 16:24; Kiki Radke, 66th, 17:03; Rachel Peterson, 74th, 17:41; Quinn Myers, 80th, 18:17; Kate Curtis, 81st, 18:21; Taylor Engstrom, 85th, 19:07; and Rachel Thomas, 86th, 19:12.
The boys were led by Zack Benning, a junior, who placed sixth with a time of 15 minutes, 54 seconds.
Stillwater won the boys race with 32 points. Mounds View was second and White Bear Lake was third. Hastings finished ninth out of the 10 teams.
Forrest Close was 51st in 17:45.
Jake Spitzack took 72nd in 18:26; Joe Rabaey was 74th in 18:27; Austin Reuter was 77th in 18:32; Christian Weiland was 78th in 18:34; Will Briercliffe was 81st in 18:39; Will Caturia took 86th in 19:08; Garrett Tuin was 89th in 19:25 and Nate Holm was 90th in 19:28.
The Hastings runner with the best chance to qualify for the state meet is Benning.
The 2012 state meet is planned for Saturday, Nov. 3, at St. Olaf College in Northfield.
