Letter: Thanks to those who help in offering free meal

To the editor,
I would like recognize the fabulous job volunteers have been doing within our community. Each Thursday a different church within Hastings sponsors a free meal. The program was developed through a need in the community to provide a free meal for those in need. It really has become an event that brings people together in the community. Whether you’re struggling to make ends meet financially, have a desire to socialize, be a part of the community, dinner out with family or friends, or to just have a place to go on Thursdays, all are welcome.
Each dinner requires many volunteers working together to make this the huge success that it is. Volunteers work long hours preparing each meal. Many more volunteers set up the dining room, decorate, greet and socialize with visitors as they arrive, serve the meal, wash dishes and clean the facilities afterwards. Long hours of hard work go in to preparing for each dinner.
I would like to applaud the churches and volunteers for their efforts. It is wonderful to see the people coming in the doors to enjoy this time together as a community. Please accept my heart-felt thank you to all the volunteers that make this weekly event happen.
