To the editor,
It took years but the old Hastings bridge off Highway 61 will be demolished and a new bridge is being built. The old bridge is a nightmare to local residents and caused too many deaths as cars tried to merge to get across it. The person who should be thanked for the new bridge is State Senator Katie Sieben. She held transportation meetings with federal and state officials, made sure that they were held accountable to get it done and that money taken from local taxpayers for transportation was used since it was a local project.
She also worked to stop borrowing from public education and cutting local city and county aid to balance budgets to keep property taxes low and co-sponsored legislation sponsored by local Republican legislators.
Therefore, all of us in Senate District 54 (formerly 57) should reward Sieben for her work and accountability on issues like the bridge by giving her another term in office in November.
