INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT 200

HASTINGS, MINNESOTA

The Regular Meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No.200, Hastings, Minnesota, was held on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, in the district office board room.

Board Chair Dan Cater called the meeting to order at 6:33 PM. The following members were present: Dan Cater, Dan Greil, Kyle Latch, Angie McGinnis, Teresa Moes, Vince O'Brien and Superintendent Collins, Lisa Hedin was absent.

A motion was made by Dan Greil and seconded by Angie McGinnis to approve the agenda as presented. Ayes all, nays none, motion carried.

A motion was made by Vince O'Brien and seconded by Teresa Moes to approve the minutes of the July 18th, 2012 Regular Board Meeting. Ayes all, nays none, motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Latch and seconded by Dan Greil to approve the Bills Payable as presented. Ayes all, nays none, motion carried.

Good News

Superintendent Collins introduced Mike Lavin, and members of the YMCA Board. Mike briefly recapped the many ways in which the YMCA and the School District have been able to collaborate over the time that YMCA has been in Hastings and thank the School District and the School Board for their past and continued support.

Superintendent's Report

•Parking Lots: Progress has been slowed due to construction issues. The District was disappointed that the "flow through" at the Middle School was not completed in time for Middle School Orientation but it appears everything will be completed in time for the start of school.

•Pool: The pool is finished and the swim team has been swimming and has been having a lot of visitors in to see the renovation. There is an issue with the diving board, it is not currently installed to the specs but they are working to resolve the issue.

•Enrollment Numbers: Kindergarten numbers have been inconsistent across the district. High numbers at JFK have resulted in an additional hire of 0.5 FTE at that site to keep classes sizes equitable between sites. Pinecrest has also seen an influx of 4th grade students at that site which resulted in the addition of another 4th grade section at that site.

•Social Work In-Service by 360 Communities: The district has contracted with 360 Communities to conduct some in-service training for our social workers in the district. We will be offering the option to attend to other school districts in the area for a fee which will offset the cost the district is paying to provide the in-service. We have already had a lot of interest in participating from other districts in the area.
