Raiders race in Hudson cross country meet

Things are really starting to come together for the Hastings boys cross country team. Last Tuesday, Hastings placed fourth out of nine teams at the annual Hudson, Wis., invitational.

Things are really starting to come together for the Hastings boys cross country team. Last Tuesday, Hastings placed fourth out of nine teams at the annual Hudson, Wis., invitational.

Hudson won the meet with 42 points. Forest Lake was second with 60, Washburn was third with 90 and Hastings had 108.

Zack Benning again led the way for Hastings. He placed second overall at the race, finishing in 16:18.8.

Joe Rabaey was 14th in 17:57.6.

Forrest Close took 27th in 18:45.4.

Jake Spitzack finished 31st in 18:58.3.

Christian Weiland was 34th with a time of 19:01.1.

And Brendan McCabe rounded out the varsity with a 48th-place finish and a time of 19:49.3.

Girls

The Hastings girls weren't able to field a complete team, but the Raiders did have four athletes in the race. The team was led by Michaela Mills, who finished 23rd in 16:45.5.

Bri Strandberg was 27th in 17:06.9, Ciara Christensen was 29th in 17:26.7 and Rachel Peterson was 51st in 19:25.7.

Junior varsity

Several junior varsity athletes competed in Hudson, too.

Here is how they finished, first with the girls.

Taylor Engstrom placed 46th in 19:39.4 and Rachel Thomas was 51st in 19:50.3.

The junior varsity boys placed fourth. Here is how the individuals placed: William Caturia, 13th, 19:47.0; Finley Meyers, 15th, 20:00.9; Jake Kelly, 16th, 20:11.4; Isaiah Gardell, 22nd, 20:03.2; Brandon Sieh, 31st, 20:53.0; Clay Fleck, 33rd, 20:59.4; Lukas Human, 43rd, 21:30.4.
