The Hastings City Council will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at City Hall. Here’s a look at what’s on the agenda.
Two proclamations will be made. One declares Tuesday, Sept. 18, as “Hastings Area YMCA Day” in Hastings, in honor of the organization’s five-year anniversary here. The other declares September, 2012, as “Senior Center Month” in Hastings, in order to encourage residents to recognize the contributions of senior center participants and the efforts of the staff and volunteers there.
A presentation of a Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association Law Enforcement Scholarship Award will also be made to Hastings Police Reserve Officer Stacy Nazarian.
With the end of a six-month probationary period for the interim use permit at Extreme Sandbox, the council will review the permit and consider allowing it to continue for one year. The interim use permit allows Extreme Sandbox to operate a limited amount of time without being required to make the property improvements normally required for businesses within the city limits. Extreme Sandbox is currently operating as a temporary business while it gets established.
A home occupation permit is up for renewal. Terry Heselton has operated his excavating business on his property. The council will consider granting a five-year extension.
The owner of a home built in 1880 is seeking approval to remove a shed and attached one-car garage and to build a new detached two-car garage. The home falls under the Original Hastings Design Standards, which were established to preserve and enhance traditional neighborhood design for Hastings’ older neighborhoods.
The council will also be asked to award a bond sale. Bonds will be used to finance road construction projects and equipment in the 2012 budget. The annual issuance of bonds was set for Sept. 17.
