A grass fire burned through a field south of Hastings Tuesday afternoon and encroached upon the back yard of a home in the 4100 block of Shannon Drive.
The fire started in a field near the intersection of Highway 316 and Michael Avenue. The exact cause was not immediately known. High winds blew the fire across the field to the northeast, toward the houses along Shannon Drive. At least one home was evacuated, but the flames did not spread to any of the homes.
The Hastings Fire Department responded to the call between 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11. The Miesville Fire Department responded to the scene, and the Cottage Grove Fire Department was also called for mutual aid.
