A license plate check led of charges of a controlled substance crime in the fifth degree and intent to escape tax against Sheree Erin Johnson, 24, Bemidji. According to the criminal complaint, a Hastings Police officer ran a check on the registration of a vehicle parked in a lot in Hastings. It indicated that the registration had expired, although the tabs were current. The owner’s driving privileges had been revoked.
A short time later the officer observed the vehicle leaving the lot with a female driver, later identified as Johnson. The vehicle was stopped. The officer ran a check on the plate and learned that that tab should have been on another vehicle. Johnson was placed under arrest.
An inventory of Johnson’s purse revealed blue and red oval pills. The blue pills tested positive for Xanax, containing alprazolam, a controlled substance.
