Letter: In support of Mike Slavik

To the editor,
My father was the veteran service director for Dakota County for 30 years. He would work heavily with the county commissioners and they would work with him to get what he needed to do his job effectively, regardless of party affiliation.
However, the election of tea party county commissioners has caused nightmare situations in neighboring counties. Library hours were cut, county attorneys were running out of money to prosecute criminals and jobs were cut and budgets were massively slashed so local cities had to raise property taxes. In one case, the veteran service director quit in tears after she could not handle the new restraints the county placed on her.
Frankly, I do not want this stuff happening in Dakota County. In addition, this election cycle is a bigger deal for Hastings. As the county seat, Hastings has thousands of workers employed by the county and these jobs in turn provide money for local businesses.
Mike Slavik understands the needs of these jobs and the work involved to keep them here. Slavik will do this by keeping budgets maintained, but taxes low. Please vote for Mike Slavik for county commissioner.
Dakota County has done well and needs to stay this way.
