The Hastings girls swim team began its season with a fifth-place finish at the 10-team Suburban East Conference relays on Thursday.
Stillwater won the meet with 136 points. Woodbury was second (110), Mounds View was third (96) and East Ridge was fourth (82).
Hastings had 72 points.
The swimmer of the meet for the Raiders was Sara Ficker.
“She did a great job in a few back-to-back events,” coach Katie McAlpin said. “She had one where she was up in one heat and then again in the next. We have more swimmers this year but sometimes this still happens. We still have one of the smallest teams in the conference.”
Hastings is at Roseville at 6 p.m. tonight (Thursday) for the first dual meet of the season. This will also be the first competition for the Hastings diving program in many years.
“We are very excited to have them and get to watch them compete this week,” McAlpin said.
