House entered, burglarized; charges result

An 18-year-old Hastings male, Bryce Thomas Horning, faces charges of burglary in the second degree and burglary in the third degree following an Aug. 21 incident in Hastings.

An 18-year-old Hastings male, Bryce Thomas Horning, faces charges of burglary in the second degree and burglary in the third degree following an Aug. 21 incident in Hastings.

According to the criminal complaint, Hastings Police were called that evening to a residence on East First Street on the report of damage to property. While they were investigating that incident, the homeowner said he believed that a vacant house next to his had also been damaged. Officers could see there was damage to the patio door and to both the exterior and interior of the house.

At the same time, other officers were investigating a complaint of juveniles who were throwing cans into a bonfire. During the investigation of this incident, officers talked to the juveniles and learned they had entered the vacant house and damaged some property. One said that Horning was with them.

Police talked to Horning three times. Initially, he denied he was had been in the house, then said he was with the juveniles, but denied doing any damage. Finally, he admitted breaking in the door and breaking a window on the second floor. He also damaged part of the stair railing. He then left the house, leaving two juveniles at the bonfire.
