The Jolly Huntsmen Band has entertained people in Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota with its music for almost 50 years. The Jolly Huntsmen have been featured performers at the Minnesota Orchestra's Viennese Sommerfest for 22 straight years and made three appearances at the Minnesota State Fair.
Founded by L.M. Retka, and now led by his accordionist son Tom Retka, and featuring multi-instrument talented brothers Dan and David, the Jolly Huntsmen produce some of the most authentic traditional polka music around. Outfitted in traditional German lederhosen, The Jolly Huntsmen capture the music, rollicking spirit and feeling of the old-world. The Jolly Huntsmen perform in combinations of three to nine musicians. The larger ensembles include some of the Twin Cities area great musician's who enjoy the Jolly Huntsmen arrangements written by Tom.
The Jolly Huntsmen provide their music and entertainment for concerts, private parties, company events and perform at a great number of Oktoberfest celebrations each year.
Guests are invited to arrive early to walk the grounds, enjoy the beautiful gardens on the historic site or take a special guided house tour at 5:30 p.m. (regular rates apply to house tours).
Bring a chair or a blanket. Rain location is Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
This year’s sponsors of the summer concerts are Hastings Concert association, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Collins wealth Management, Dakota Electric Association, Vermillion State Bank, Arlene and Dan Myers, and financial representatives of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans in Cottage Grove.
