Police report preview - Aug. 4 to Aug. 10

Here is a preview of this week's police report. The entire report can be found on Page 4A of this week's print edition.

• Officers responded to a bar in the 1800 block of Vermillion Street on the report that a vehicle had crashed into the building and caused a gas leak. The call came in at 2:01 a.m.

The gas was shut off and the driver of the vehicle was located and arrested for DWI.

He was arrested on the probable cause charge of gross misdemeanor DWI, no proof of insurance, failure to register a vehicle, possession of a small amount of marijuana and leaving the scene of an accident. He had a blood-alcohol-content of .19.

• Hastings officers cited a man for theft after he stole three packages of Starburst candy valued at $4.15 from a store in the 200 block of 11th Street.

• A homeowner called to report that a cat had curled up in a bush. The homeowner tried to remove the cat, but the cat kept coming back to the same bush.

The cat’s owner could not be located.

Officers seized the cat and transported it to an animal hospital.
