A 20-year-old Hastings man, Brody Dominic Hamilton, faces charges of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle (felony) and driving after revocation (misdemeanor) after a July 28 incident in Hastings.
According to the criminal complaint, a Hastings police officer observed a vehicle traveling east on 31st Street. The driver of the vehicle appeared to be startled by the officer’s presence and made an abrupt turn onto Cory Lane. The vehicle did not slow down as it made the turn. The officer turned onto Cory Lane and observed the vehicle continue to accelerate. The officer activated his squad car’s emergency lights and siren. The vehicle made a left-hand turn into a condominium parking lot and stopped. The driver began to walk way from the vehicle. The officer ordered the driver to the ground and the suspect, identified now as Hamilton, acted like he did not see him. He eventually complied.
Hamilton was placed under arrest. A records check indicated he did not have a valid driver’s license. Hamilton told the officer he knew he did not have a driver’s license and that his behavior was done to escape the officer.
