Letter: Thanks go out to those who helped with charity game

To the editor,

A huge thank you to many people who helped make the second annual “NHL Players Charity Hockey Game” on July 11, 2012, a tremendous success for the Hastings Hockey Boosters!  Thanks to Hastings natives Derek Stepan (New York Rangers), Taylor Chorney (Edmonton Oilers), and Jeff Taffe (Minnesota Wild), who helped organize the event, played in the game and recruited other players to attend including Hastings’ own Aaron Fox (Medzecsak Zagreb), Michael Gergen (Idaho Steelheads) and Jesse Polk (Saint Mary’s).

Perhaps more impressive than the skills on the ice, was the display of generosity before, during and after the game as players spent significant time signing jerseys and memorabilia, giving away sticks, and meeting fans.  We greatly appreciate their time and thoughtfulness!

Thank you to Brad Stepan, Janet Olson, Matt Larson, Julie Larson, Angie Schiller, Lisa Foster and Kelly Sweeney who were instrumental in organizing and putting on the event.  They put in countless hours and hard work over the last several months. This included things such as working on logistics at the ice arena, soliciting sponsors, working with the players, and selling tickets throughout the local communities.  This event would not have happened without their vision and determination.

Thank you to our event sponsors for their donations – Chris Brown and Associates, Competitive Edge Skating andSkills, Dan Rother Photography, Erickson Marine, Float Rite Park, Hausman and Tousignant Investment Group LLC, J N M Trucking, K and J Catering, Parties To Go, Radke & Mohrhauser LLC, Ryan Electric, Sieben Polk Law Firm, Simek’s and Strauss Skates and Bicycles.

Thank you to Sophie Sieh for singing the national anthem.  Finally, we appreciate all the time and hard work from many parents and other volunteers at the venue. We could not have done it without you!
