To the editor,
I am writing to invite all people old, young and in between, to come and see what a considerable part of our community has been working on. It is Black Dirt Theater’s “The Sound of Music” play.
The story is the same, but Black Dirt Theater has worked to make this production a true representation of the great people that live in our area. The performances will occur July 27 to Aug. 5 at the Hastings High School auditorium.
It’s not often that one gets to actually live out a childhood dream and cross off an item from one’s “bucket list,” but I’ve been able to do both through Black Dirt Theater’s production of the “Sound of Music.” I have been able to work with this amazing community theater group as “Frau Elsa Schraeder.”
In high school I had minimal experience with musical theater, but had always wanted to do more. Well, college and then marriage and then work and then children all stopped me from being able to perform in this capacity again. Until now, that is!
I have been working with almost 100 community members to create this fun and professional version of an all-time classic.
I auditioned hoping that I’d at least be able to play a tree on stage and I’m happy to say I have been able to do so much more. There have been nervous times, and so many others have surrounded me with support! We all recognize that it will take the whole company to make this show a success, and so we support each other so that success happens!
Come and enjoy the show!
