Letter: Thanks to city staff for storm cleanup

Last week we drove on Spiral Boulevard and saw someone with a weed trimmer cutting all the weeds in the ditches. I must say it sure looks much better with all the ragweed and goldenrod cut down along with all the other weeds, or so called wild flowers.

To the editor,

Last week we drove on Spiral Boulevard and saw someone with a weed trimmer cutting all the weeds in the ditches. I must say it sure looks much better with all the ragweed and goldenrod cut down along with all the other weeds, or so called wild flowers.

Whoever thought of the natural wild flowers maybe thought it was a great idea, but I can tell you it made the area look terrible. Those with hayfever and allergies should be grateful.

Also, after reading in the Star Gazette that the city was going to enforce home owners to cut their lawns and weeds, I drove down our streets and looked at our boulevards and right of ways — there is no grass any more. It’s all dandelions.

Highway 55 is a good example. In the center median that our state is supposed to take care of (great idea there), the trees and shrubs are dead and dying from the winter salt, though we do have a nice crop off weeds growing.

We do want to thank our city crews for their hard work in the major task of the tree clean up since the storm. I’m sure everyone in Hastings feels the same about the day after day effort in the tree removal. Maybe if we could use some of the county residents at the law enforcement center, that could clean up these public lots and boulevards, especially if the city and state crews are short-handed.
