Stoneberg to play in all-star tournament

Aaron Stoneberg of Hastings was chosen to play in the 2012 Minnesota Lions High School All-Star Baseball Tournament in Chaska. Only 80 players from across Minnesota are selected by their high school coaches to play for one of the four competing All-Star Tournament teams.

Alumni of the tournament include Minnesota Twins players Joe Mauer (he won the All-Star Tournament home run derby in 2001), Tim Laudner, Kent Hrbek and Glen Perkins. Now in its 38th year, the Minnesota Lions All-Star Tournament has raised more than $350,000 to support The Lions Children’s Eye Clinic at the University of Minnesota. The clinic sees more than 5,000 children each year, many of who have such serious vision problems that no other clinic in the region can help.

“Lions Club members are honored to work with the high school coaches and skilled players who join together in offering an exciting and fun event,” said Lion Bob Wharton, Lions member and tournament co-founder. “Proceeds from this event directly benefit children from across the state who seek treatment at the University of Minnesota.”

Stoneberg is a 2012 graduate of Hastings High School. He plans to attend Hamline University this fall.
