It’s show time!
After weeks of rehearsals, learning lines, lyrics and movements, Black Dirt Theater Company’s production of “The Sound of Music” opens this week at Hastings High School, 200 General Sieben Drive.
More than 100 performers from this area have been cast in this production, many of whom are students, teachers and staff in the Hastings School District. The project also involves a full community orchestra/band, giving another avenue for the talent of the community to be shown. The co-directors are Andy Langenfeld and Libby Burkitt, both with extensive backgrounds in the theater and performing art.
“This whole process is exciting to see how much interest the community of Hastings has towards the arts and theater,” said Langenfeld. “There are so many people helping in different ways. If they don’t act they are still showcasing their talents behind the scenes.”
Performances at the Hastings High School will be on July 27, 28, 29; Aug. 2, 4 and 5. Shows are at 7 p.m., except for the Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. A second show has been added at 7 p.m. Aug. 4.
An interpretation with sign language will be part of the July 27 performance. An audio device for the visually impaired will be available for the Aug. 2 performance.
Audience discussions will be held after the shows July 29 and Aug. 4.
