A jury of four women and two men will begin deliberations at 9 a.m. today (Thursday) in the trial for Rene Doffing, the Hastings police officer accused of stealing a corkscrew from a restaurant here.

Doffing testified in his defense on Wednesday. Shortly thereafter, attorneys on both sides had their closing arguments.

Judge Michael Mayer gave the jury its instructions, and they left for the evening.

Jurors are being asked to decided whether or not Doffing intended to permanently or temporarily deprive the restaurant the use of its corkscrew.
