Miesville’s Luke Rassmussen allowed one run on three hits Friday in a 5-1 victory over Hastings in Hastings.
Rassmussen had a no-hitter going through 6 1/3 innings until giving up a hit in the seventh. Rassmussen finished with five strikeouts and walked two in eight innings.
Player-manager Matt Van Der Bosch led the Mudhens (14-4, 5-2 Section 1B) with a 3-for-4 performance and three RBI. Tyler Beaulieu went 4-for-5 with a run and Colin Keefe finished 2-for-4 with a run for Miesville, which pulled within a half game of the Hawks for first place in the section standings.
Miesville took a 1-0 lead in the second inning but broke the game open with a three-run fourth inning. The Mudhens added a run in the sixth and finished with 13 hits.
Miesville only got five runs but had plenty of opportunities to further break the game open. The Mudhens stranded the bases loaded twice and left a runner on third with less than two outs three times.
“We just need to be a little more aware in those situations,” Van Der Bosch said.
Hastings’ Deryk Marks gave up five runs on 11 hits, walked one and struck out five in seven innings.
Miesville plays host to Northfield at 8 p.m. Friday, July 13.
The Mudhens are at Cannon Falls on Sunday, then return home for an 8 p.m. game July 18 against the Minneapolis Lakers.
