Editorial: Help the city out; haul your own debris to waste site

We have nothing but praise for the work being done at the City of Hastings when it comes to cleaning up our city following the devastating storm two weeks ago. Staff members have been busy since the storm blew through here, getting our city running again through some very challenging times.

Residents, too, have been hard at work.

This week, we are asking residents to do what they can to assist the city. While crews are out picking up debris from our boulevards, homeowners can save those crews a considerable amount of time by hauling their debris to the Waste Management yard waste site in the industrial park. The site has expanded its hours. They are open from noon to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

They are also open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

By hauling your own debris to the site, you will save the city time and money. In the end, the money they save is your money, so we all have a stake in helping them spend as little as possible during the cleanup.
