The Hastings City Council will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, July 2, at City Hall. Here’s a look at what’s on the agenda:
Council members will consider awarding a $42,000 contract to Minnesota/Wisconsin Playgrounds for the purchase of new playground equipment at Crestview Park. The playground design submitted by the company features a style that would be unique in the City of Hastings and engage children ages 2 to 5 and ages 5 to 12 in active play. The playground budget is $50,000. Playground equipment companies submitting proposals were asked to present a feature costing $42,000, including safety material. The remaining $8,000 is designated for a weed barrier, border and installation.
City staff is asking council for authorization to contract for tree debris removal assistance to speed cleanup activities in the wake of the June 19 storm. The authorization would include continued use of Helke Tree Removal and Hoffman McNamara, which were hired June 26 and 27, as well as bringing on a third contracted crew if needed to meet the city’s cleanup goal.
Council will also review plans for a new Park and Ride lot in downtown Hastings at Third and Tyler streets. If approved construction on the lot – which is intended to start growing a user base for future transit here – would begin this year.
Also to be discussed is a site plan for a car wash addition on the Hastings Chrysler property, located at the corner of highways 61 and 316.
