An inmate of the Dakota County Jail, Jeffrey Scott Roehling, 43, has been charged with assault in the fourth degree after a June 11 incident in the jail’s intake area. According to the criminal complaint, correctional staff had responded to the intake area because Roehling was making suicidal statements to staff. The correctional officers, pursuant to jail policy, ordered Roehling to dress in an anti-suicidal smock that is used for suicidal inmates. Roehling was apparently uncooperative. When jail staff opened the pass through of the jail cell door to communicate with Roehling, Roehling apparently spit through the pass-through, causing his saliva to land on the pant leg of a correctional deputy.
