Letter: Braveheart Rescue needs to be saved
After reading the article about the closing of Bravehart Rescue by Marshan township, I felt that I had to write the paper about my feelings on this matter. I am hoping that many other people step up and make the people who made this decision take another look at what this means not only to the people involved, but to the innocent animals they are condemning. The truth is that some, if not many of these animals, could be put to death because of their selfish and heartless decisions.
To the editor,
After reading the article about the closing of Bravehart Rescue by Marshan township, I felt that I had to write the paper about my feelings on this matter. I am hoping that many other people step up and make the people who made this decision take another look at what this means not only to the people involved, but to the innocent animals they are condemning. The truth is that some, if not many of these animals, could be put to death because of their selfish and heartless decisions.
It is becoming harder to find people who are truly willing to give of their own time, money and love to victims of abuse, starvation and loneliness. People from places like Braveheart Rescue, Animal Ark and the other rescues in our midst are not only valuable to our society, they are truly rare. We live in a throw away world as proven by the people who rule over Marshan township. These are victims who have no voice. Animal shelters are closing all the time and now, these people chose to close Braveheart. Where are animals to go?
Did these board members ever have an animal? Did you look into their eyes? They teach us so much about being human beings. They are lucky to have a good person to love them, but the human being is so much luckier to have the animals. We have a world where children are lost, hurt and feel abandoned and the best person they have is their pet. Pets teach kids responsibility, love and companionship. Old people feel young when they hold a dog and cat or touch a horse. Yet, these selfish board members are willing to see these animals destroyed and put to death because of a piece of paper that they have the power to write but are unwilling to. They say they can’t write an ordinance because more rescues will be started. I would love that. But, of course, that will not happen. It takes a lot of money, hard work and love to run a rescue. Few people are that dedicated or want to do it. We need to give those the chance to do it if they feel a need. I feel the township board should be ashamed for what they have done here. I have no problem bending my pride. I will personally beg them to change their minds. I will lower my pride to beg for these animals, just as I am sure the owners of Braveheart Rescue have already done to no avail. I would also ask that the public please contact these people on behalf of these animals to give them a chance at life. Also I pray to God for the future animals these people would help save.
There is no decent reason that the board has to do this cruel act. It is simply a political David and Goliath game, nothing more. I am a Christian and I truly believe that God embraces and loves people who help victims, be they human or animal. I also believe He is crying over what has happened in recent years.
Our earth is in trouble, and all of His animals are in trouble. Maybe we can’t save the world, but Braveheart is trying to save their little corner. Please help them! Citizens need to take back their government, especially when an injustice is being done. Please help Braveheart and their animals.
I did have one final thought when writing this letter. I wonder: Did Noah have a permit when He saved thousands of animals on his ark during the big flood? How different our lives would be today had he been told not to do so. I somehow do not think it mattered.
People make mistakes. Give them a permit. Help them correct the situation. Don’t punish good deeds and punish victims. I hope we, as a society, have come farther than that. Time will tell. Good luck Braveheart Rescue and Animal Ark. You are in our thoughts prayers. We admire you.
