There are new knights in the City of Vermillion, as of Friday, June 1.
Members of the St. Paul Winter Carnival Royalty, including Princess Gina Werner of Vermillion, King Boreas Steve Cortinas and Queen of the Snows Ashley Hayes visited St. John the Baptist Catholic in Vermillion, enlarged their kingdom, handed out candy, chocolate-flavored coins and necklaces, and made countless new friends.
The visit was part of a day-long trip through the area for the royalty. Vermillion was their first stop.
Gina and Jeff Werner’s sons, A.J. and Tyson, became knights as other members of the family watched. Then, some teachers and volunteers of the school had their moment as they touched the magic pillow and the king held his royal wand over them.
There was time for a little visiting, a group photo and lots of smiles.
After about 40 minutes, it was time for the royalty to travel to their next stop, and the students to return to their studies.
