Four Hastings City Council members file again
All four Hastings incumbent Hastings City Council members have filed for re-election. As of Wednesday morning the candidates filing are Anthony (Tony) Alongi, Ward 1; Joe Balsanek, Ward 2; Tony Nelson, Ward 3; and Danna Elling Schultz, Ward 4. All four Hastings incumbent Hastings City Council members have filed for re-election. As of Wednesday morning the candidates filing are Anthony (Tony) Alongi, Ward 1; Joe Balsanek, Ward 2; Tony Nelson, Ward 3; and Danna Elling Schultz, Ward 4. Brian Meeks had also filed for the Ward 3 seat and Michael Grady has filed for Ward 1.
The filing period for city, county, state and federal offices closes Tuesday, June 5.
For Hastings residents, the four city council ward seats expire this year. Interested people can file at Hastings City Hall during regular business hours — 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
At Dakota County, six of the seven commissioner seats will be on the ballots. There will be no election in district 2.
Filing for the County Commissioner seats Tuesdays were: Mike Slavik of Hastings and Christy Jo Fogarty of Farmington, District 1; Nancy Schouweiler (incumbent) and Bill Klein, District 3; Liz Workman (incumbent)and Peter Beckle, District 5; Paul Krause (incumbent) and Chuck Halberg, District 6; and Chris Gerlach, District 7. Incumbent District 1 Commissioner Joseph Harris of Hastings, and Incumbent District 7 Commissioner Will Branning are not seeking re-election.
Statewide, all Minnesota House of Representatives and Senate seats are on the ballot this year due to redistricting. None of the statewide offices—governor, secretary of state, attorney general – are on the ballot this year.
Sen. Katie Sieben, Democrat, has filed for re-election to the Senate District 54. Joanna Bayers of Hastings has filed for the District 54B House of Representatives seat.Incumbent Rep. Denny McNamara, Republican, Hastings, has indicated he will file for another term.
Candidates for state Legislature may file with the county in which they reside or in the office of the Minnesota Secretary of State.
At the federal level, Hastings area voters will also vote for Congress — 2nd Distinct. Rep. John Kline is the incumbent and did file for another term this week.
