SEAS kindergarteners get look, taste and feel for New Guinea

The kindergarten class at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School got a look, taste and feel for another country Tuesday afternoon.

Members of the Reents family – John and Amy, brother Tim, and grandmother Shirley — introduced the 35 young people to New Guinea. Students sampled food, different juices and fruits and learned about the animals, plants, clothing and artifacts of New Guinea, where the family lived for many years. They even got to play the native drum and flute instruments.

The hands-on session lasted about 35 minutes, including sampling the food, handling the artifacts, and watching a slide show about the island country.

The Reents family lived there when Shirley’s husband was a missionary for the Lutheran Church. They did return for a visit in the early 1990s.
