The next Hastings City Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, May 21, at Hastings City Hall. Here’s a look at what’s on the agenda.
Six properties will be recognized and their owners presented with preservation award plaques. Each year, the Heritage Preservation Commission nominates and votes for good examples of properly maintained or restored properties in the city. The HPC selected this year’s winners at its April meeting.
The council will be asked to award a $489,205 contract to Blackstone Contractors, LLC, to construct the County Road 46/47 trail connection. The issue was originally sent to the council at the May 7 meeting, but was postponed at the request of City Administrator Dave Osberg. Also on this week’s agenda are resolutions to approve the necessary easement agreements in order to construct the trail.
Another contract going before the council for approval is for the 2012 seal coat program. The low bid, at about $279,000, was submitted by Allied Blacktop Company, but was 21 percent higher than last year’s prices and 10 percent higher than the construction cost estimate. Because costs exceeded the budget, some project areas are being eliminated.
A crack sealing and surface treatment program contract for the trail system will also go before the council. The low bid for the project is a little less than $30,000. If approved, work should be completed by June 26.
The Hastings Economic Development and Redevelopment will be asking the council for its support in demolishing the 1974 addition to the former Hudson Manufacturing building in downtown Hastings. This motion would only indicate support; final approval of demolition would be considered at a later date after a public hearing to allow for public comment.
