A benefit fund has been set up to help the Hastings family that lost its house, camper and truck to a fire recently. The homeowners are Nolan and Jean Appert.

“Total strangers were stopping by and kept asking the Apperts and myself if a fund had been set up for the family,”?said Jean Appert’s sister, Barb Knafla. “I set up a fund for them at the bank they use. I also wanted to send out a huge thank you to the Hastings community for their support, kind words and donations to the Appert family. It is unbelievable and overwhelming how much support the family has received from total strangers, from checks, offering clothes, bringing food and water and even a lady who offered to help with labor when they rebuild.

“I also wanted to thank the firefighters for saving the dogs and rabbit. It meant a lot to the family. Thank you and God bless all of you.”

The fund has been established at the Vermillion State Bank. It is the Jean and Nolan Appert fund. The bank’s address is 975 Lyn Way in Hastings.
