Editorial: Special thanks go out to the HFD

Many weeks, the Hastings Fire Department goes about its business behind the scenes. They respond to minor accidents, they respond to false alarms and they respond to private medical crises, like when someone has a heart attack.

During those weeks, you may forget about the department.

They aren’t, however, forgetting about you or our city.

As the past two weeks have shown, our firefighters are ready to, at a moment’s notice, come to our aid.

We’ve been hit hard in Hastings with three major fires in the past 10 days and each and every time the department has arrived, sirens blaring, within minutes. They are the ones rushing into the burning building, not out of it.

Thank you, Hastings Fire Department, for all you do.
