Free band concert is Monday, May 7, in Hastings

The River Valley Band has a concert scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 7, at the Hastings High School auditorium.The Medalist Concert Band from Bloomington will also perform.

The concert is free.

The River Valley Band is a community band that was formed in 2010. The Medalist Concert Band, meanwhile, has been around some 45 years.

“These ensembles define what is great about a community, coming together for a common purpose and goal while creating something amazing,” said director Jim Jacobsen. “ All of the members of these group, mainly adults, devote hours to practice and rehearsals and present numerous concerts throughout the Twin Cities area.  As a director of the River Valley Band, I can say that we are extremely honored to share the stage with such a prestigious group such as the Medalist Concert Band.”

Music on the program will include works by such noted composers as; Malcolm Arnold, J.S. Bach, Alfred Reed, John Philip Sousa, Aaron Copland and many more.
