The Hastings girls golf team got its season started Thursday with a meet at Prestwick in Woodbury. The Suburban East Conference meet featured all 10 teams, and Hastings placed eighth.
Sadie Karbo and co-captain for the Raiders shot a 48, sister Izzy Karbo shot a 49, co-captain Haley Jo Kimmen had a 53, as did Caitlyn Judge 53. Maddy Bauer had a 55 and Claire Baldwin shot a 56.
Just a few days later, the Raiders really turned things around with a second-place finish at an SEC meet at the Stillwater Country Club.
Sadie Karbo had a 45. Izzy Karbo had a 46 and Bauer had a 47. Three players each had 51s on the day, including Kimmen, Judge and Baldwin.
“This second-place finish was a great motivator for the girls,” coach Becky Hartung said. “Their hard work is paying off and they want to get better.”
