The Hastings baseball team is now 2-6 on the season after winning one Suburban East Conference game and losing two this week.
The win came Friday, April 20, against Park. Hastings won, 10-4, thanks to hot hitting right from the start of game.
“We came out swinging the bats very well today,” coach Paul Hartmann said. “It was a great day to hit and we had tremendous balance throughout our lineup. We had 17 hits, which we haven’t had in a long time. It was a great win for us and nice to get a lot of people in the game.”
Up and down the lineup, Hastings got contributions at the plate.
Matt Koch, batting leadoff, had two hits, two runs and an RBI.
Eric McCarthy had a hit and a run.
Aaron Stoneberg had a hit, a run and two RBIs.
Nate Flynn had two hits, a run and two RBI.
Billy Biskupski had a hit.
Xavier Kopp had a hit and a run.
Mike Rodriguez had a hit.
Anders Hillstrom had a hit and a run.
Jared Powell had three hits, two runs and two RBI.
Josh Monjeau had two hits and a run.
Joe Shingledecker had two hits and three RBI.
Zach Anderson pitched for Hastings and got the win, going six innings.
“Zach threw very well,” Hartmann said. “His only blemish came in the second inning, when we didn’t support him well defensively.
Joe Stark pitched the seventh inning for Hastings.
Hastings lost to Woodbury, 8-6.
“We did not pitch the way we were capable of today,” Hartmann said. “Woodbury swung the bats very well. To our guys’ credit, they battled back after being down early. It was great to see Eric come up big in a key spot. He’s been working very hard to overcome his MCL injury sustained during the hockey season. He has a bat that this lineup needs.”
Xavier Kopp got the start for Hastings. He threw two and two-thirds innings, giving up six hits and six runs, four of which were earned. He walked two and struck out four.
Jon Barber came on in relief and took the loss, pitching three and a third. He gave up four hits and two runs, neither of which was earned.
Aaron Stoneberg had two hits for Hastings. He also had a run and an RBI. Nate Flynn also had two hits, a run and an RBI.
Eric Marthy had a big hit during a five-run rally in the fifth inning, knocking in three runs.
Jared Powell had a hit and an RBI.
