The Regular Meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No.200, Hastings, Minnesota, was held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, in the district office board room.

Board Chair Dan Cater called the meeting to order at 6:33 PM. The following members were present: Dan Cater, Lisa Hedin, Kyle Latch, Angie McGinnis, Teresa Moes, Vince O'Brien and Superintendent Collins, Dan Greil, was absent.

A motion was made by Angie McGinnis and seconded by Kyle Latch to approve the agenda as presented. Ayes all, nays none, motion carried.

A motion was made by Teresa Moes and seconded by Vince O'Brien to approve the minutes of the January 18th, 2012, Regular Board Meeting. Ayes all, nays none, motion carried.

A motion was made by Kyle Latch and seconded by Teresa Moes to approve the Bills Payable as presented. Ayes all, nays none, motion carried.

Good News

Superintendent Collins recognized Jeff Destross, a 4th grade teacher at Pinecrest Elementary, who was recently named the Chamber of Commerce - Educator of the Year. Collins told the board that The person nominating "Mr. D.", as he is called by his students, states "he is very approachable and easy to talk to which enables his students to ask questions to further their education. He makes learning fun and encourages each student to reach their own highest potential. He is a genuine person who really cares about his job as an educator as well as the children he is educating. He is a credit to his profession."

Collins also acknowledged Tom Johnson, who was recently named the State Athletic Director of the Year-AA. Mr. Collins told the board, Tom was recognized for his positive influence on students, staff members and the community as well as his dedication to student athletes. Despite the growing demands of his position, Tom is able to tell you that the most important part of his profession is the academic achievement, healthy lifestyle and positive behavior of all students.

Superintendent's Report

Mr. Collins briefly reviewed several items with the board including the elementary enrollment numbers projected for the fall of 2012, an update on the facility improvements to the pool and the Middle School/Pinecrest parking lot, and the progress on the wireless initiative at the High School. Collins also told the board that negotiations have continued with the Teachers and he feels they may be close to reaching an agreement. Collins then discussed new legislation that was recently passed and how they will impact the District's Federal Reimbursement for Free and Reduced Lunches.

There being no further business a motion was made by Angie McGinnis and seconded by Teresa Moes to close the meeting for an update on the Teacher Negotiations progress. Ayes all, nays none, motion carried. The meeting was closed at 8:03 PM

There being no further business, a motion was made by Vince O'Brien and seconded by Lisa Hedin to adjourn the meeting. Ayes all, nays none, motion carried.
