Warrant leads to drug charge

A 28-year-old Hastings man, Patrick Francis Murphy, has been charged with one count of a controlled substance crime in the fifth degree after he was arrested March 18 on an outstanding warrant.

A 28-year-old Hastings man, Patrick Francis Murphy, has been charged with one count of a controlled substance crime in the fifth degree after he was arrested March 18 on an outstanding warrant.

According to the criminal complaint, Hastings Police were called to the area of the Lake Rebecca parking lot on the report of possible suspicious activity. When the officer arrived, he located a dark-colored car and a motorcycle. As the officer approached the car, he observed the back-seat passenger as Murphy. He knew there was a warrant out of Dakota County for him.

Murphy was placed under arrest. He was searched, and the officer located a marijuana pipe and a small plastic bag containing a white crystal substance in his clothing. Testing confirmed the pre-sentence of amphetamine.
