Editorial: Dear dinosaur thief: Don’t take what isn’t yours
In recent months, the Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council has worked hard to gain traction here. Things have taken off recently with the group’s first big promotion, which included a number of beautiful handmade sculptures appearing at area businesses.
In recent months, the Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council has worked hard to gain traction here. Things have taken off recently with the group’s first big promotion, which included a number of beautiful handmade sculptures appearing at area businesses.
Now, someone has gone and stolen one of the sculptures.
What kind of town is this?
We applaud the council on its work to bring the arts to the forefront here. A gala is planned in April, and a new light may soon be shone on the tireless work of our talented area artists. But goofs like the dinosaur sculpture thief ruin much of the momentum for public art projects. How could we possibly invest in any sort of public art when we have nagging doubts about how quickly the works will be stolen or vandalized?
If you are the thief, please just return the sculpture to Spiral Natural Foods. In the future, don’t take something that isn’t yours.
If you really need a piece of artwork for your home, we’d encourage you to get in touch with the Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council. They have contact information for a number of area artists who produce beautiful work that you can add to your collection the right way.
